Breaking News - Guided-missiles destroyer USS Lassen enters 12 nautical miles of China man-mad islands


Monday, October 26th 2015, United States sends the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, the USS Lassen (DDG-82) to challenge the 12-nautical-mile territorial limit China claims around the South China Sea islands following months of deliberation.

China claims most of the South China Sea, one of the world's busiest sea lanes, through which more than $5 trillion of world trade passes every year.

A second defense official said the mission, which lasted a few hours, also included Mischief Reef and would be the first in a series of freedom-of-navigation exercises aimed at testing China's territorial claims.

China's Foreign Ministry said the "relevant authorities" monitored, followed and warned the USS Lassen as it "illegally" entered waters near islands and reefs in the Spratlys without the Chinese government's permission.

"China will resolutely respond to any country's deliberate provocations. We will continue to closely monitor the relevant seas and airspace, and take all necessary steps in accordance with the need," the ministry said in a statement that gave no details on precisely where the U.S. ship sailed.

"China strongly urges the U.S. side to conscientiously handle China's serious representations, immediately correct its mistake and not take any dangerous or provocative acts that threaten China's sovereignty and security interests," it said.

Trung Quốc đã giận dữ phản đối Hoa Kỳ đưa tàu khu trục USS Lassen tới áp sát các hòn đảo nhân tạo mà Bắc Kinh xây dựng ở Biển Đông.
Chính quyền Bắc Kinh cho biết đã cảnh cáo và theo đuôi chiến hạm có trang bị tên lửa dẫn đường của Hoa Kỳ hôm nay, 27/10.
Theo các quan chức Mỹ, trong chuyến đi kéo dài vài tiếng đồng hồ, tàu USS Lassen đã tiến vào khu vực biển 12 hải lý tại bãi đá Vành Khăn và Subi ở Trường Sa.
