“And it’s one, two, three; what are we fighting for? Don’t ask me, I don’t give a damn. Next stop is Vietnam!”
Those words seemed to echo out of a distant past ahead of U.S. President Barack Obama’s visit to Vietnam, a country with which the United States now maintains good relations as well as important trade ties.

Next week, U.S. President Barack Obama begins a three-day visit to Vietnam, a country in which the United States once stationed more than a half-million troops fighting a bitter conflict that deeply divided American society. More than 40 years after it ended, that war continues to spark debate, especially among those who fought in it. VOA’s Greg Flakus attended a Vietnam War Summit in Austin, Texas, and has this report.
